New work on provincial councils…
The Educational Programs Division of the Families of the Disappeared recently hosted another session in Matara.
"This is a two-day residential educational workshop. We started educational programs a while back with topics including media studies and training, Sri Lankan repressive legislation, human and fundamental rights, domestic and international human rights institutions, and the United Nations based on our own requirements. These programs are being developed in multiple phases.
In the meantime, we launched a new program called "(Sri) Lanka's National Problem and Enforced Disappearances" that focused on another intricate topic. It was the third phase of the program. This time the topic was regarding provincial councils. We conducted an extensive examination of the Indo-Lanka Accord, the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, Indian expansionism, and the historical political conflicts surrounding the events of 1987 that occurred in Sri Lanka. In anticipation of the upcoming provincial council elections, we are building and fortifying our position as the Families of the Disappeared community through this.
