A group of 30 members selected from the Families of the Disappeared arrived at the University of Peradeniya recently. This group represented the third generation of the Families of the Disappeared, which consisted of schoolchildren and their parents. This visit is a step forward for the next generation of the Families of the Disappeared, who continue with their studies despite facing many challenges and hardships. The group was able to see the common places of the university, encouraging them to enrol in the university in the future. Furthermore, the group exchanged their understanding and experience of the Sri Lankan student movement—a movement that is closely associated with the Families of the Disappeared, the university students who were killed, and the university students who were subjected to enforced disappearances during those battles.Dr. Kalpa Rajapaksha also attended this occasion and held a brief discussion about the economy and free education. The Faculty of Arts Student Union and the General Student Union at Peradeniya University served as the mediating parties in this matter.Iduwara Mapa (Balma), a student comrade from the Department of Fine Arts Studies, guided us throughout the day by taking the contingent (Families of the Disappeared) on the university tour.
