A young man was beaten while in custody, and the police are accused of his death.
"My husband was arrested due to a car accident. He was detained for a few hours before being released to go home. My husband said that the police had hit him severely with wooden poles and that his chest hurts. And then we took him to the hospital."
This incident has been reported from #Wadduwa. Samitha Dilshan is a 24-year-old father of one. On 2025.02.11, Wadduwa police arrested him on the suspicion of causing a car accident.
After being detained for several hours at the police station, Dilshan was eventually allowed to leave. Dilshan vomited blood when he got home. He told the family that he was severely beaten with a pole by a police officer while he was in police custody. However, that evening Dilshan passed away after being admitted to the hospital.
According to #WadduwaPolice, Dilshan was released to his family members for medical treatment after being granted police bail.
