Why is this happening…?

At Baldi Junction, Negombo, on the 21st, victims of the Easter Sunday attacks gathered as usual demanding justice. A new slogan emerged—“May the criminals be cursed!”—reflecting deep pain, frustration, and loss of faith in the justice system. It voiced doubt even in the NPP government’s ability to deliver truth and justice for the attacks.

As usual, on 21st, a group of people gathered at Baldi Junction in Negombo. As they always do, they called for the truth to be revealed and for justice to be served regarding the Easter Sunday attacks.
But unlike other times, this time there was a new slogan among the usual chants. Although it was a new slogan, it was one that emerged from the side of the victims, as justice for the massive crimes in Sri Lanka continued to be denied. Many might see this slogan as extreme, lacking in moral decency, or merely a cry based on religious beliefs. Or perhaps, it seems from the pain, isolation, and uncertainty the victims continue to experience endlessly in the absence of a solution.

When they say, “May the criminals, the murderers be cursed!” – isn’t it a plea for justice through natural law or through the belief system they hold, when justice from the courts and the government is seen as unattainable? Isn’t this slogan expressing the feeling that not even a government like the National People’s Power (NPP), which came to power with the overwhelming support of the people demanding justice for large-scale crimes, will bring truth or justice for the Easter Sunday attacks?
